Crash Into Me Dave Matthews Band
"Crash" as its called by Dave Matthews Band fans, was released in December 1996, as the third single from their second album, Crash. It reached number 7 on the US billboard Modern Rock Charts in 1997, the song was also nominated for the Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 1998 Grammy Awards.
I'm pretty sure that this song has been in my life for the whole 19 years. My parents love this band and song. I never really felt the hype of the song until probably my junior year in Highschool. There is a Listener Supported version that just hit different and just watching the video of them playing the song live in concert made the song a hundred times better.
One thing about this song is how innocent it sounds listening to it a few times. Its often rememberd by the older fans to be like a fantasy/dream or a sexy ballad thats filled with both sorrow and dread. It also gives that feeling of pining over someone from afar. In the first verse "You've got your ball, you've got your chain, tied upo to me tight, tie me up again," the narrator in the song tells us that he is so infatuated with this girl, it feels as if he is trapped in his obession with her, but he is not complaining a bit as he asked to be "tie me up again." Then the narrator questions in his head as he's watching her have a sexual expirence with another person "Whos got their claws in you my friend? Into your heart i'll beat again. Dave the singer uses romantice metaphors very coyly and literally. Then we go into the narrators head with what he feels for her, she's sweet like candy and this guy is totally lost and in love with her.
The chorus "Oh, when you come Crash into me And I come into you And I come into you In a boy's dream, in a boys dream," the narrator here wants his dream with this girl to come true, he wants him and the girl to crash into each other sexually, and mentally. But its also a combination of how a boy thinks sex is about, and how a mans idea of passion.Verse three describes him asking ifs he done to much to please the girl and he's asking for her forgiveness if so, but when he's holding the girl it feels as if they're crashing into each other every time.Verse four, is where his dream is becoming more of a reality. "Hike up your skirt a little more and show the world to me," the narrator wants the girl to to her clothes off so he can see the rest of body. "Show the world to me," points to the narrator becoming a man after having sex with the women and her teaching everything else there is to know about the world the live in.
"Baby, come crash into me, yeah Crash into me Crash into me."
